Our Mission

Using wild botanicals helps us connect with the biodiversity and immense utility of the plants of our terroir.  Many of the botanical treasures of this content and region have been forgotten and lost to history, with many people perceiving the only useful plants to be the handful of domesticated plants used in our increasingly globalized diet and lives, forgetting that the reasons these plants became domesticated are present in many other plants in every ecosystem. Bio-active compounds produced by plants can be used by our bodies- plants (and fungi) often face many of the same biological threats as we do- bacteria, inflammation, viruses, and so on. The types of properties we seek out in plants for skincare and herbal medicine are found in the myriad of plants in our own ecosystem here in Michigan. Changing people's relationships and views of the plant world around them is a central focus in our work.

From Forest to Face

We specialize in the extraction of botanical compounds. Plants are harvested at the peak of their season from healthy ecosystems. Some plants are dried to be used in oil infusions, other plants are steam distilled to obtain their hydrosols and essential oils. Others are treated with solvents such as glycerine and alcohol to obtain potent extracts to incorporate into our products. Honoring the rhythms of the nature is central to our process, formulating products with plants which are in season in small batches. We combine modern scientific research into wild flora and fungi with traditional plant knowledge of the indigenous cultures of North America to create modern products rooted in ancient traditions.
