At Flora+Fungi, we specialize in transforming organically grown plants from our small herb farm in Northeast Michigan and mindfully wildcrafted botanicals into vibrant skincare products to nourish your skin and spirit. Creating, not sourcing, is what sets us apart. We strive to produce as many of our product’s base ingredients as possible instead of relying on outside suppliers. This gives us greater control over quality and assurance that the botanicals used were grown ethically and organically. By growing, distilling, and extracting our own materials, we know where everything comes from and can feel proud putting our skincare products into the world.

Artisan Distilled Small Batch Hydrosols
Hydrosols are plant distillate waters distilled from fresh plant material. These aren’t simply essential oil added to water, these are the extraction of the cellular waters and volatile compounds of a plant through the botanical alchemy of distillation- where plant material is gently heated in an apparatus called a still. Steam gently carries the aromatic compounds up through the still into a condenser where the steam is cooled and transformed back into a liquid- this is the hydrosol. Hydrosols extract the water soluble and volatile compounds from a plant. Unlike essential oils, hydrosols do not need to be diluted to safely use, making them an ideal addition to a plant based skincare routine. We specialize in distillation- all of our hydrosols are produced in small batches in-house with botanicals regeneratively grown on our small herb farm, ethically wild harvested from Northeast Michigan, or sourced from other small Michigan farms who align with our ethos.

Our skincare starts with a seed. It’s more than a product- it's the alchemy of earth, plants, water and passion. An ode to the land that holds us, to the Great Lakes Bioregion and Laurentian Mixed Forest Province whose forests and meadows we walk and worship. Honoring the rhythms of nature is central to our process, formulating products with plants which are in season in small batches. We combine modern scientific research with traditional plant knowledge to create modern products rooted in ancient traditions. Our formulas begin with research- delving into the chemical constituents of each plant, so we can extract the bioactive compounds in the most effective manner to create phytonutrient rich extracts for our formulas.
