Lauma: Goddess Of Trees. Coniferous Forest Facial Elixir
A rich winter facial elixir spun together with fragrant evergreen hydrosols, resins, and forest infused oils. Hemlock and Black Spruce hydrosols dance with Balsam Fir resin and Frankincense infused Perilla Seed Oil, and Cocoa Butter to create a protective facial cream ideal for the transition into the dry cold nights of winter. This cream is far thicker and richer than most of our facial creams, but when applied to moist skin will glide on leaving skin feeling velvety.
Out of our facial line, this is the heaviest cream, but it is by no means greasy. Its weight comes from the oil phase being 60% Balsam Fir Resin, and the rest of the oil phase being Perillaoil richly infused with frankincense. Resins are trees’ protective superpower- exuding rich terpenoid oleoresins loaded with anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral compounds protects the trees wounds while they heal. These medicinal compounds are also able to be harnessed by our bodies to our benefit.
Resins have been used medicinally and cosmetically since the night of time. We often sing the praises of Balsam Fir Resin, as it is one of our favorite bioregional ingredients. Balsam fir resin is yet another substance derived from the Balsam Fir tree. Found in blisters on the trunk of young trees, it has antiseptic, antiviral, anti-fungal, antibacterial, oxygenating, immune boosting properties. The resin is composed of a range of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and diterpenes. Alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene, beta-phellandrene, myrcene, and geraniol being the most prominent. The undiluted resin was used extensively by the indigenous cultures of North America for the treatment of severe burns, cuts and a wide variety of skin ailments for its ability to seal over the injured area and keep it clean and sealed while the skin regenerates.
Frankincense resin has similar properties, and its usage in medicine and cosmetic preparations dates back to early human history in the Middle East and Africa. Its protective properties are perfect for shielding skin from harsh conditions and helping maintain skin’s protective barrier.
Rich cocoa butter adds another layer of subtle fragrance in this cream, as well as providing high amounts of fatty acids to hydrate skin. Silky smooth Perilla oil is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory compounds to soothe skin.
The water phase of this cream marries the hydrosols and essential oils of Eastern Hemlock (tsuga canadensis), Black Spruce (Picea mariana) . All hydrosols and essential oils were distilled by us in our alembic copper still. The essential oil level is below 1%- suitable for delicate facial skin, and reinforces the multifaceted evergreen aroma. A touch of raw Michigan Star Thistle Honey acts as a humectant to allow the moisture from the hydrosols to linger longer on your skin, without adding any stickiness.
Ingredients: Tsuga Canadensis (Eastern Hemlock) hydrosol, Picea mariana (Black Spruce) hydrosol Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) butter, Perilla seed oil, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Miel, Abies balsamea (Balsam Fir) oleoresin, Boswellia Sacra (Frankincense) resin, Ledum Groenlanicum extract Tocopherol, Benzyl Alcohol (and) Salicylic Acid (and) Glycerin (and)Sorbic Acid, artisan distilled essential oils of Hemlock, Spruce, Fir and Cedar.
Usage: Massage a pea sized dab into moist skin after cleansing. We recommend cleansing, following up with a hydrosol or other facial toner, then applying any water based serums (Such as Forest Nymph Hyaluronic Acid Serum or Moonlit Reishi Night Serum) before applying a facial lotion such as Lauma, Sunshine, Birch Blessings or Still Waters.
