St. John's Wort Therapeutic Massage Oil

$28.00

This massage oil is the companion to our Ice Salve Menthol Cooling Balm- this version has a viscosity more suitable for massage, where the balm is better for self application. Made with a base of St. John’s Wort and Poplar bud infused oil.  A capsicum extract provides a gentle warming sensation at first, followed by a deep cooling sensation from the menthol. The capsicum and menthol extracts work quickly to dull pain while the St. John’s Wort and Poplar bud oils gradually work their magic as the oil soaks in throughout the massage.

More on the plant magic you can find in this bottle:

St John’s Wort is an herbaceous perennial native to Eurasia which long ago naturalized on Turtle island. It is often found sporting cheery yellow flowers in mid to late summer along roadsides, in fields and meadows. Usage of St. John’s Wort can be traced all the way back to Ancient Greece- its uses documented by Hippocrates and Dioscorides among others. St. John’s Wort has a variety of uses- one of the most well known being used to treat anxiety, depression, SAD and other mood disorders when used in tea, capsule or tincture form when taken internally. Topically St. John’s Wort’s anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial and antispasmodic actions make it a great choice for supporting muscle pain, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and more. St. John’s Wort also has a reputation for soothing nerve pain, rheumatism and sciatica when used topically. St. John's wort has several active constituents which include hypericin, hyperforin, isohypericin, protohypericin, pseudohypericin and several other flavonoids.

Poplar trees of many varieties hold a rich aromatic resin in between the tightly folded buds that will erupt into leaves come spring. While many species in the Populus genus have medicinal resins, we prefer the Populus balsamifera for the rich aroma of its resin. The resin of poplar buds is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic and is a wonderful ally for a range of skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis, as well as reducing pain and inflammation from bruises and other minor injuries.
