Reishi Mushroom Elixir
It’s been a couple years since we have offered our wild harvested mushroom tinctures, and now we are slowly working on upgrading them into more complex elixirs that will delight your taste buds! Mushrooms are full of powerful medicinal compounds, but often also full of powerful tastes that can make using them regularly a challenge to those with delicate tastes.
More than a simple dual extracted tincture we have taken this reishi extraction to the next level! After freshly chopped reishi infused for several weeks in Polish potato vodka we filtered out the marc (plant or mushroom material used for the extraction) and prepared it for the water extraction and reinfused the reishi tincture with aromatics to improve the flavor to create an extract that is a delight to take straight or add to coffee and tea. Notes of cacao and cherry dance around your palate followed by whispers of nutmeg and sweet fern while a hint of maple syrup draws all the flavors together.
Reishi is the common name which often refers to the Ganoderma complex of mushrooms, which contains dozens of species around the world- some accounts put this figure around several hundred. The Ganoderma family is a well documented and studied group of mushrooms- also the most widely consumed in the world. Reishi has been consumed for millennia in Asia and is gaining rapid popularity as an adaptogen in Western holistic medicine. Reishi helps the immune system function as well as helps fight off viruses. Reishi also helps lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation- making it a great mushroom to take for any inflammation related condition such as chronic pain or even nasal inflammation associated with allergies. Reishi increases antioxidant activity in the body, and help regenerate liver cells allowing the liver to detoxify foreign substances more quickly. Studies have shown reishi to slow and even inhibit the growth of cancer cells in laboratory tests. Reishi is also used to boost physical and cognitive energy. We use our regional variety of Reishi-Ganoderma Tsugae, also known as Hemlock Reishi or Hemlock Varnish Shelf in our elixir.
Ingredients: Wild Harvested Northern Michigan Ganoderma tsugae, Polish potato vodka, organic cacao nibs, Michigan Montmorency dried cherries, nutmeg, sweet fern (comptonia peregrina) nutlets, Local Maple Syrup.
